Mr. Walker's practice focuses on defending national clients in high-stakes product liability litigation. He has been extensively involved in representing R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company in smoking and health litigation in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and Puerto Rico courts, including significant contributions in two month-long trials in Florida. Following recent decertification of a high-profile Florida class action, Mr. Walker has been active in the management and defense of thousands of smoking and health actions brought by individual plaintiffs in dozens of Florida jurisdictions.
A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania (J.D. cum laude 2000; Associate Editor, Law Review; Regional Finalist, National Mock Trial Competition 2000; James H. Mr. Simon began his career with Jones Day in 1996 as a summer associate in the Atlanta Office; he joined the Firm as a full time associate in 1997. Mr. Simon practices primarily in the capital markets arena, where he has considerable experience representing both issuers and financial institutions in capital raising transactions such as public and private equity and debt issuances, recapitalizations and restructurings, as well as tender offers and asset-based transactions. Mr. Simon regularly works with and counsels a number of SEC reporting companies on periodic and other reporting obligations, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance requirements, stock exchange rules, and other general securities law compliance issues. He has significant experience with the financial institutions, solar, chemicals, manufacturing, and insurance industries, among others, and has served as in-house counsel for a publicly traded company with over $1.5 billion in annual revenue. He not only advises Atlanta-based clients, but also works with lawyers in Jones Day's other offices, particularly in California and even Australia, on a variety of capital markets transactions.
A graduate of Emory University (J.D. with distinction 1997; Business Manager, Emory Law Journal) and Tulane University (B.S.M. cum laude 1994), Mr. Simon is a former tennis professional and continues to participate in charity fund-raising tournaments.
